Young dogs to play off in finals

August 17th 2010 16:07
South Launceston fans haven't had much to cheer about since the inception of the TSL, things have seemed to reach their worst for the Dogs. But this season the Bulldogs are going to see finals action, the Seniors may have won another Wooden Spoon but the Reserves are a chance to end this season with something good.

Some have seen the South Launceston side that leaped from the NTFL into the Tasmanian Football League as a serial underachiever. The Bulldogs share a rich history, but not really a successful one, South last one a premiership in 1999 that side were back to back premiers having won the premiership in 1998 beating East Devonport.

South Launceston's reserves enjoyed a good season finishing third on the table, and will face Clarence at Bellerive this weekend. Clarence are always a difficult side to beat at home, reserves or seniors they have always found a way to walk away with a win.

But unlike their senior team the Clarence reserves side has not built a fortress at Bellerive and teams have managed to win games there. The Bulldogs side are going to buoyed by playing finals this season even if it's down there in the Reserves Grade, having the young side that the Bulldogs have any type of finals can be good for them.

The senior Dogs started off the season with a win over Lauderdale and even had a good win over the Dockers, but this season was just not their season again, with their reserves making the finals it could see the Dogs start to improve next season.

The main issue will be recruitment now for the Dogs, with the TSL season winding down they have time to bring in some players, and see how they are going to tackle season 2011.

On the Reserves front, their reserves have been a quality side, and could very well bring another premiership up north as their cross town rivals Launceston last season took home the TSL Reserves Premiership.
