Webberley in line for Tiger debut
April 2nd 2010 10:47
He was voted the RACT Player of the Year last season, he kicked the winning goal in the TSL Grand Final for Clarence, and now he's a chance to add AFL player to his CV as he looks to line up for the Tigers against the Bulldogs, in a game that has been described as a possible one sided affair that will see the Tigers belted yet again.
In this game the former Roo utility that has been tagged by another former Taswegian looking to make his mark on the AFL Ryan Harwood has been selected for the Tigers, and if he plays he will join another former Roo boy Jack Riewoldt, in playing senior football for the Richmond Football Club.
Webberley was one of many young stars that was unearthed when the new statewide league was unleashed last season, and boy did he really impress with silky skills, gathering the ball, and even under pressure sending the Roos home with a premership.
His tussle with Brisane Lions draftee Ryan Harwood last season was a tussle that really highlighted a rivalry between the clubss, while in their first encounter at KGV Oval Ryan Harwood would take the points, they would only briefly meet later in the season.
Both times Glenorchy won, but Webberley was not directly played on by Harwood, errors crept into Webberleys game when he lined up against the Pies in the midseason game, he was soundly beaten late in the game when the Roos needed someone to stand up, but when they needed him in the Grand Final against the Magpies, a game where Harwood was returning from a club suspension, Webberley got the ball late and drilled a goal he will forever remember.
The crop of talented young Tasmanians is only growing year by year with Tasmanian Football starting to be repaired, the quality, the standard was raised last year, and this year it will again. but for Webberley his new dream now is to dream of kicking another winning goal, this time in an AFL Grand final, clinching a premiership which if he is with the Tigers, could be one that they have been unable to attain since 1980.
Good luck to Jeromey Webberley should he run out for the Tigers.
