TSL List Changes: 7th December

December 7th 2010 02:41
It's not even Christmas yet and there has been many list changes to have happen already, firstly the obvious list change has been that of Brett Geappen who retired midway through the season, Brett injured his neck against North Launceston. The diagnosis was that he would retire to prevent any further damage, Geappen tried to return for the 2010 TSL Finals Series, but was deemed unfit and couldn't get medical clearance.

Clarence also lose premiership midfielder Joshua Green, who was drafted by the Brisbane Lions in the National Draft, Green was the highly fancied of the Tasmanian Draftees and was promptly snapped up, he joins other former Tasmanians Ryan Harwood, Aaron Cornelius, and Bart McCulloch who was re-drafted today.

The biggest signing of year for the TSL has been Jason Akermanis, who has agreed to join Glenorchy next season and play in black and white. Aker was highly sought after by the Magpies, and were hoping to get the deal done, well, in November they got their man. Not only did Glenorchy pull off that coup, they also managed to secure Rhys Mott, a talented young midfielder from Devonport, a signing that will surely hurt the Magpies who have lost a few players now. Glenorchy also welcomes Ben Brown, the Grandson of former Glenorchy legend Jim Manson who sadly passed away this year.

Glenorchy lost Jade Hodge who accepted a coaching job in NSW this season, following him to NSW is Bryce O'Garey the Glenorchy Premiership player was being enticed by VFL clubs in 2010 mainly Coburg where former Glenorchy premiership coach David Newitt is now. Retired Magpie defender Ben Curley joined them along with Cal Garvey, and reserves stalwart Sean Browning.

Burnie has managed a signing coup of their own, former Essendon and East Devonport Ruckman Jason Laycock returns to Tasmania and signed with the Dockers this season, rumours linked him with a move to the Giants as a mature aged rookie but Laycock rejected the idea and remains in Tasmania.

Burnie welcomes back Nick McKenna who has spent time in South Australia, and also welcomes back Rohan Baldock, no outs have yet been reported by the Dockers, who are also looking to sign a couple of more players.

Devonport have suffered some major loses, the Magpies who played in the 2010 Grand Final have already lost coach Errol Bourn, they have also lost Ben Brown and Rhys Mott both to Glenorchy, Brad and Chris McDonald return to Penguiin, Clint Viney, and Trent McCrossen join the NTFL, the Magpies are also expected to lose Ben Reynolds, he is currently being wooed by Glenorchy.

Hobart have suffered some loses as well, the Hall brothers, sons of former Hobart, Glenorchy and Lindisfarne Champion Dale Hall have left the club. Sam Hall returns to New Norfolk in the SFL, while his brother Aaron has headed to Queensland. Highflying Jeremy Howe who burst onto the scene this season in the TSL with some big marks has been drafted by Melbourne, it was seen as a massive draft surprise.

Former Glenorchy star Blair Kean has also left Hobart, headed for Western Australia, and today George Burbury, who was training with the Saints, and also had the eye of Collingwood was today snapped up by Geelong. Geelong were also keen on him, finally got their man, more changes are expected at the Tigers. Justin Harvey also retired.

Lauderdale have lost 2 players so far, Jacob Gilbee who some had tipped to go to Collingwood was drafted by AFL new comers the Gold Coast suns, and today other AFL new comers GWS Giants have drafted Andrew Phillips.

Launceston have yet to announce any gains, or loses so far.

We get to North Hobart, and as expected Sam Darley was drafted by Greater Western Sydney, he heads up there as one of the highly fancied top prospects of the future. Robbie Devine has also retired from North Hobart, and he joins former team mate Byron Howard at Glenorchy as a specialist coach, Devonport were chasing Devine, but their Southern rivals managed to secure him.

North Launceston's only loss so far is coach Paul Atkins who they sacked at seasons end, they have brought in Jeff Dunne, former Saints defender to full that position. Rumours are that Zane Murphy is headed to the Demons.

South Launceston have the one loss, Nick Buller has left for Geelong West St. Peter's he's not the only Tasmanian to have gone to the Geelong leagues, Micael Newport is already over there, and Russell Robertson recently signed, in the past Shayne Moles, Stuart Whitelaw have played there.
