THREE Tasmanians were snapped up in tonight's AFL Draft, including one shock selection.
Teenage stars Josh Green (Brisbane, selection 32) and Jake Gillbee (Gold Coast, 49) are bound for Queensland after stand-out seasons with the all-conquering Tassie Mariners and their State League clubs Clarence and Lauderdale respectively.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Jeremy Howe was selected by Melbourne at number 33 with the Dees' second draft pick, taking the former country player from State League club Hobart, where he made a big impression with his high marking.
Howe played for Dodges Ferry last year before moving to Hobart this season.
"That was a bit left-field but it's great news for Jeremy and it shows there is more than one way to get drafted," said AFL Tasmania's state talent manager Nick Probert, who was at the draft.
"Josh and Jake have had seamless transitions through the underage talent pathway, starting with the state under 15s through to state under-18s.
"Jeremy showed good signs with his three games for the Mariners last year and it's a great result that he was able to get noticed playing State League and get drafted that way."
Howe is the second Tasmanian in two years to have played with a regional club, then move to a State League club and get drafted.
Clarence recruited Jeremy Webberley from Brighton, and last year he was drafted by Richmond and played seven senior games this season.
Howe, Green and Gillbee will have to pack their bags and prepare to relocate to their new homes in the coming days and take up their new lives as professional footballers.
