Tasmania’s ability to produce quality footballers has again been recognised with four players selected in the 2010 NAB AFL National Draft.
Josh Green, Jeremy Howe, Jacob Gillbee and Brodie Moles will all join AFL Clubs for the 2011 season.
The selection of these four brings the total number of Tasmanians eligible to be drafted in 2010 to seven, with Maverick Weller and Luke Russell already selected as 17 year-olds by the Gold Coast Suns and Sam Darley taken by the Greater Western Sydney Giants.
AFL Tasmania State Talent Manager Nick Probert believes it is a great endorsement for the talent pathways in the state and for the Wrest Point Tasmanian State League competition.
"Green and Gillbee were selected on the back of impressive performances at the AFL U18 Championships," Probert said.
"But Howe was picked up after his strong performance with Hobart in the TSL.
“This is the second year in a row that TSL players have been selected in the draft after Jeromey Webberley was went to Richmond last year.
"This is great for those boys who miss out at U18 level but still hold hopes of making it to the AFL,” Probert said.
“With a total of seven players picked up by AFL clubs it reinforces the success of the AFL Tasmania State Academy Pathway to the AFL for young Tasmanian footballers.”
Jacob Green, who played for Clarence in 2010, was the first selected in the draft at number 32 by the Brisbane Lions.
Howe was next up at selection 33, and will start his AFL career with the Melbourne Football Club. Lauderdale's Gillbee was drafted at number 49 to play with the Gold Coast Suns, while Moles will play with the Western Bulldogs after being promoted from the rookie list.
