LAUNCESTON'S Brian Finch is making a career out of filling shoes.
First it was for the Blues as Adam Derbyshire's replacement, now it is in the state team to fill in the gap left by Brett Geappen.
Derbyshire's decision to take the year off meant Finch has played as a permanent full-forward for the first time in his career with stunning success.
With Geappen, the TSL's leading goalkicker, ruled out with a neck injury Finch will line up as Tasmania's spearhead on Saturday against Queensland on the Gold Coast.
"I was always a midfielder right up until last year and this year," Finch, 29, said yesterday.
"Played more half forward last year but since 'Derba' went I was shifted down to full forward now I'm a bit older and not covering the ground as quick as I was in the midfield."
Finch will go into Saturday's state game - his first senior representative match - in red hot form having booted 10.2 against Lauderdale last round to earn the three votes in the RACT Insurance Player of the Year award.
It is the first double figure haul since the state league was re-introduced last year.
"It is not a bad little thing, but the state league has only been going for two years," he said of the first double figure haul.
"It is the first time I've kicked double figures so it was a nice to get."
"I'm only 183cm so I'm not a Paul Salmon. I'm a bit smaller, my leading and that and I've worked on my pace off the mark and that has been paying off for me at the moment."
The Player of the Year receives a $5000 travel package including travel, accommodation and $2500 to spend.
