Jaye Bowden is expecting to be challenged by Magpies big man Simon Spencer, the ruckman is having his best season to date for Glenorchy, and last weekend against the Demons managed another big game.
Spencer originally came to the Magpies from the NTFL, he spent some time with the Magpies and then he returned from the Northern Bombers last season, and he has not looked back, Andrew Nash was possibly Glenorchy's best ruckman last season, with Spencer a little behind him, but Nash retired at the end of the season.
Nash was going to make a comeback for his old club Kermandie who went into recess leaving him without a club, this season the Kermandie Robins were unable to come back out of recess even with the signing of Capper and Jackson in the off season.
Jaye Bowden son of former Glenorchy premiership player and coach Micky Bowden has been one of the Magpies' best player in the last two seasons, one thing is certain, the Cazaly Medal is going to be a hotly contested medal this season for Glenorchy, with Bowden possibly ahead of Spencer.
A fitting result in the Cazaly Medal this season could be a tie between the two Magpies, in what looked like a bleak season, but the Pies are sitting in 4th spot and travel to Devonport to play their Magpie rivals. The two teams played off in a Grand Final back in the old TFL, with the then Blues taking the flag from the young Pies.
Both sides have only met the twice since the new TSL, Glenorchy walked away with the points last season, but Devonport belted a weakened Magpie line up this season, but Glenorchy in full flight are brimming with a log of confidence and will hope to knock over the Northern Magpies under lights at Devonport Oval.
Glenorchy snatched a double chance on the weekend after they beat a North Hobart side that were also playing for that spot in the top four, but they are going to be playing off in the Elimination Final Sunday against North Launceston at North Hobart Oval.
North Hobart went into last seasons final with a loss as well, last time around it was out of contention Hobart that beat the Demons before they went onto be eliminated by eventual premiers Clarence.
Devonport ended the chances of North Launceston to secure a top four spot this season with their win on the weekend. Glenorchy now are facing the tough challenge of Devonport, should the Magpies lose they will have to wait and see who they will be taking on next week.
