SUMMARY
The young Magpies battle a tough task this weekend when they take on Clarence at KGV oval, the Roos are flying having not lost a game this season, the Magpies are still going win-loss win-loss, last weekend the Magpies kept with the Blues but a massive last quarter saw the Blues run away with the game. Promising signs for the Magpies are that Michael Darcy is starting to boot some goals, and young Nathan Matthews is still playing good football.
The Roos, last week had a slow start against the Dockers, even though the Dockers were unable to score they weer playing well against the Roos, until the Roos finally pulled away and blew them away. Last season Glenorchy won both KGV encounters, and the Roos won both Bellerive Encounters, this could be the best chance any team has had to beat the Roos this season. Though the Magpies are going to have to do it this week without forward David Hunt who misses this weekend, young forward Luke Potter has been selected to replace Hunt as their full forward. Clarence are welcoming back Matthew Drury & Gregg Sharman.
Glenorchy have been given extra motivation this week with the sad passing of former club legend “Gentleman” Jim Manson who suffered a heart attack in the early hours of Thursday morning the Magpies will be holding a one minute of silence for Manson, and all teams will be wearing black arm bands.
The Magpies are going to need to try and stop Brett Geappen who is closing in on 50 goals in the middle of the season, with 10 rounds to go he could go very close to breaking the ton int the new TSL here this season. Mark Corbett has been selected to play on Geappen this week, a tough ask Corbett who took some time off from the club but he's not back in black and white.
The last time they met Glenorchy and Clarence were pretty even until the half time break, and then the Roos broke away and started to dominate the game, and ended up giving the Magpies a touch up under lights at Bellerive Oval. In that game Gregg Sharman played on Michael Darcy and kept him pretty quite but the delivery into the forward line was pretty poor by the Magpies in that game and that was partly the reason they struggled in that game, Jaye Bowden popped up and started to help the Magpies cause but the assistance was just too late, this time around the Magpies forward line is a bit weaker with the loss of Hunt, but the Roos, they haven't got any worries as they bring back some tough players for the Magpies to handle.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Michael Darcy (Glenorchy) – The last time he played against Clarence he was a bit quiet, finished with one goal, he has been able to get some goals since then and has started to show some good signs. The Magpies are going to need all the goalkickers they can get this week with the loss of David Hunt, this is his chance to show what he is made of against a quality opponent!.
Cameron Blight (Clarence) – The aging defender was able to on more then one occasion last week easily broke away from opponents to make and repel the ball out of the Burnie backline, the former Devil, and former Kingborough Tiger, and Smithton coach has been getting better and better with age.
QUESTION MARKS
Glenorchy needs a win to keep in touch with the top half of the ladder, and to stay in the top 6 altogether, can they pull of the expected win, and exploilt home field advantage? David Hunt is a big loss for the Magpies, can young Luke Potter stand up for the Pies?
Clarence were able to prevent the Dockers from scoring early, but they gave away a lot of possession, could complacency be starting to creep into the Roos in small doses? Or were the Roos just a little slow to start, and with some big ins just blow away the Magpies?
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
Clarence seem to be cruising right now, they had a bit of a slow start with the Dockers, started slowly against the Blues as well, but still flog them both, they had trouble at KGV Oval last season, the Roos lost both games, and were lucky not to have been belted both times. Glenorchy not having a lot of experience on the park this season could see them unable to repeat this from the last season, but they are going in the right direction, sadly for the Magpies the Roos are going to be too good.
Glenorchy has managed one upset so far in the early stages beating North Hobart, but I think the Roos are just going to well and have too many forward options, and midfield options for the Magpies to try and crack down on and actually look like winning the game. Unless the Roos have a very off day this week the Magpies are in for a long day, but the game is in front of the Glenorchy faithful at KGV Oval, this would surely help the Magpies keep the game looking a little respectable. But the Roos are going to win, and Brett Geappen is going to get ever closer to booting a tonne, but really needs to work on his accuracy, he could have gotten 14 goals last weekend, if it was not for the behinds he booted.
