SUMMARY
The Tigers are keen to play finals this season, the Bulldogs, they just want to win some games, and then have a tilt at the finals. Both sides have had big early season wins, and a win this week could put them ever closer to playing in the finals, or at least push them closer to the Top 6 for this week, the season is long and there are going to be other challengers that pop up before the Tigers or Bulldogs can get themselves into that position but they have the chance this week.
They have only had the one meeting since the restart of the TSL, and that was last season where the Tigers broke away in the second half and beat the Doggies at the TCA Ground, before that they met in their respective last seasons in the old Tasmanian Football League, and South Launceston walked away with the points the season, and the Tigers didn't win a game. Now both sides are on 2 wins, which is also what Burnie are on and Launceston who are holding on to their spots, should the Magpies beat the Blues and the Dockers lose which looks like for them against Clarence one of these two teams could be in the top six after this round.
It's ninth playing eighth the Tigers and the Dogs, and by the time the game is over one of these two sides will be one step closer to reaching the top 6 by the end of the round. Can the Dogs who pulled off a big win over the dockers last week, pull off another big win? Or are the Tigers getting back on track and heading towards their first TSL Finals series? We'll know by 4:30pm where both sides will stand by the end of the weekend!
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Jay Blackberry (South Launceston) – Kicked a few goals last week in a surprising win over the Dockers last week, he has been averaging a couple of goals the Dogs are going to need all the goals they can muster for this one.
Andrew Lemm (Hobart) – The captain of the Tigers is going to need to help lead his young Tigers into battle against the Dogs, after the fadeout again in the second half last week the Tigers are going to need to start to finishing off games.
QUESTION MARKS
South Launceston coming off a big win, and playing at home, do they have enough quality in their side to become to prevent the Tigers from taking the points here? If the Dogs win, can they keep this up and play their first ever Statewide League finals?
Hobart have said they want to play finals this season, and after struggling for the first couple of games, seemed to have turned the corner but were brought back again last week, the real question is, are they a team that can make the finals? Can the Tigers travel to Youngtown and perform well enough to walk away with the points?
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
Hobart have the quality on the park, or at least have had it, in recent weeks some younger Tigers players have started to stand up. But the Tigers are still finding themselves fading away late in a game, their fadeout against Devonport last week saw the Magpies run riot in the second half, the Tigers went to sleep against the Roos if the Tifers are going to be considered a good team and a contender they do need to keep up the intensity for the full game.
This is the first time at the Youngtown oval for most of the Hobart boys, and they are going to take a few moments to get used to the game there, but I do think they have enough there to beat the Dogs. The Tigers need some of their young players in Kean, the Hall brothers, and others to stand up, as well as some veterans, and I am sure Graham Fox is going to make sure the boys are focused on the task at hand, but they are going to need to keep an eye on this one.
