SUMMARY
The battle of the Bombers sees Lauderdale travel North to play their Northern rivals North Launceston, who are coming off a big team win against Glenorchy at KGV last weekend. Lauderdale on the other hand were another team that has been blown away by the top of the table Roos both sides have more then one thing in common, other then the obvious Bombers nickname and colours both sides have beaten last years Grand Finalists at KGV Oval this season. For Lauderdale that remains their only win, the Bombers well they are on a bit of a winning streak.
North Launceston were pushed all day by the Magpies, but in the end the Bombers just had too much and the goal kicking efforts by Darren Crawford put the game beyond doubt. The Magpies just could not handle the run that the Bombers were getting out of their backline, every time the Magpies went forward the bombers would repel without any problems. Shane Wager, and former Docker Zane Murphy were able to show up the Magpies, and at times the game started look like it was headed for a messy scoreline.
These two sides have only ever met once in Tasmanian State League history and that was last season at Bellerive Oval, a game that was moved from Lauderdale and picked up by the ABC. North Launceston walked away with the points from that game, and this season they are looking like the team of the 1990s that would be too strong for some teams, and battle the Roos for flags, and a couple of other teams. Lauderdale, well they have had their good points, back when they played North Hobart back kicking was keeping them out of the game up until half time after that the Demons blew them away, a late fadeout against Hobart proved to be their downfall, and it was their downfall against South Launceston back in Round 1 as well.
No such problem against Glenorchy though, the Bombers managed to hold off the Magpies, even though Bowring's miss managed to give them the full points from that encounter, minus the two blowouts the Bombers have not been disgracedd un their games this season, but this could be one of those games that could become an ugly encounter.
Lauderdale do have a young side and that's starting to show at times, this round is a good test for North Launceston as well, can they keep their winning streak going until they battle the Roos?
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Zane Murphy (North Launceston) – The former Docker has found himself right at home at North Launceston, his ability to get the ball, and run with it, the long bombs into the forward line that is going to make him a big assist to the team. Even though he travels from Wynyard to travel with the side, and travels home again.
Alan Joyce (Lauderdale) – named in the bests against the Roos last week, lining up on the Half Forward Flank he is going to be in charge of firing the ball into the Bombers forward line, and hoping that the young small Lauderdale Forwards can kick the goals.
QUESTION MARKS
North Launceston came down to Hobart and beat the Magpies, and have traveled back up, for them they are on a winning streak, but what is the long travels for Zane Murphy doing to his fitness? Andrew McLean is a veteran of the TSL, can he inspire his Bombers to be able to b a contender, or are they going to become another pretender?
Lauderdale are bottom of the table, only the one win so far this season against Glenorchy, and that could have easily have been a loss, are the bombers struggling under new coach Darren Winter? Can they really find a way to prevent themselves from taking home the wooden spoon?
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
North Launceston has the fire power to beat Lauderdale, small forwards there that are going to trouble them, Crawford is in fine goal kicking form this season, Zane Murphy is playing great football, can even bomb the ball into the forward line to assist with goals as well, McLean is their go to guy as far as giving them the vital advice they need. Shane Wager, and all those Vineys are just going to carve up this young Lauderdale line up.
North Launceston are going to hope that Joel Mountney has learned his lesson from last week and will not show off in front of goal, his miss was followed by a Glenorchy revival that if the Magpies had have been able to sustain it could have seen the Bombers lose that game. Lauderdale are going to need to start putting together a consistent four quarter game, and they have not done that yet. Being smashed by Clarence is going to take it out of them, but on the plus side they have a good young side coming through.
It's a bit of short term pain, for long term gain, this is a phrase you are going to hear a lot this weekend, because Glenorchy have the same issue. A young side with not many big name players, attempting to compete enough and if they can take a win here and there can help build them up.
