SUMMARY

Last week Glenorchy pulled off a massive win, they fought back from 26 points down in the last quarter to win by 19 points, against Burnie who were looking to get back onto the winners list, Glenorchy lead going into the half time break, and then Burnie took the lead going into three quarter time, but the young Magpies managed to overrun the Dockers in the end on a very windy day at West Park. North Launceston survived a spirited fight against South Launceston at Youngtown Oval, finally winning that game by eight points.

Glenorchy fielded it's youngest side since 1992 last weekend, a year when Kim Excell coached a wooden spoon winning side that only won the 3 games for the season, the same season that North Hobart would go onto win the Premiership. Fast forward 18 years to 2010 and Glenorchy battled the side that they triumphed over in 1999 to win their first premiership in over 10 years. That season saw North Launceston finish top of the table, and Glenorchy finish third on the ladder.

North Launceston would get the honors over Glenorchy for most of that season, winning all encounters in the premiership season, the finals however saw Glenorchy finally break through with the win at then York Park in the 1999 Second Semi Final on a cold and wet winter's day only 7 goals were kicked, and Glenorchy were into their first Grand Final in years. North Launceston then played Clarence, who they'd battle in the next seasons Grand Final, at York Park and won into the Grand Final.

Grand Final day and Glenorchy took the points, the last time the Bombers beat Glenorchy was Round 16 2000 under lights at York Park, that was the season that Glenorchy had to rebuild after an exodus of premiership players, the scores then were Northern Bombers 17.10 (112) def. Glenorchy 10.15 (75) North Launceston's last win at KGV was that same year, in the Grand Final replay in Round 1 2000 the final scores that day were Northern Bombers 17.10 (112) def. Glenorchy 13.18 (96)

The new Tasmanian State League has seen Glenorchy's luck change a bit, having beaten the Bombers in every encounter they have had in 2009, and even their pre-season game, which most cannot really judge as North played a lot of young players in the second hafl of that game but the Magpies have still had the wood over the Bombers, and with their big come from behind win last weekend, confidence is high amongst the Glenorchy players. It's going to be a big game for both sides, the Magpies need another win to help keep their season on track, the Bombers want to break their losing streak against the Magpies.

This is the ABC Game of The Day, Glenorchy & North Launceston's first chance to shine on the big stage of Televiased Saturday Afternoon Football, it should be a cracking game with both sides wanting to walk away from this 4 points richer.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Jaye Bowden (Glenorchy) -
The acting captain had another day out, booting 5 goals against Burnie and being one of many shining lights for the Magpies, it's easy to see why he's been selected as the acting captain for when Jesse Crouch is not playing he's managed to assist the fight back of the Magpies in a few games and has been a ball magnet, and a handy goalsneak, one player that the Magpies really needs for this clash against the Bombers.

Darren Crawford (North Launceston) –
A top young forward for the Bombers, able to pump the ball into 50, and bomb it from 50 to goal, he was able to boot himself 3 goals against the Dogs last weekend, and been selected to play at Half Forward this weekend. He has Justin Cotton alongside him at Centre Half Forward both of them have been the main contributors for the Bombers this season.

QUESTION MARKS

Glenorchy managed to sneak home with the points against the Dockers last weekend, injuries and players leaving the club have become a problem for the Magpies, can the young players coming into the side be the key to the Magpies success this season? Michael Darcy is starting this week at Centre Half Forward managed to kick 3 goals last weekend, his best haul in a game this season, was that a kickstart he needed for the season?

North Launceston has struggled against Glenorchy in the new Statewide League the Bombers are a young side as well under a new coach, can the bombers travel down and take advantage of the Magpies' inexperience? Did the near loss against the Dogs effect the bombers in anyway?

WHO WILL WIN AND WHY

Glenorchy getting the win last week has helped keep their season on track, and with the young players they have in the side, mixed with the more experienced young players it should give them the edge over the Bombers. Glenorchy will not have it their own way, or you would think they wouldn't wth the Bombers currently in third and them in fifth it should be a close contest, but the Magpies do have Bowden, Darcy, and Bowring firing in the forward line, Bowden roaming around the ground more often then not, and the others in the forward 50. Hunt, Rainbird and Webb are going to be around the square the Bombers have Crawford and Cotton who are at Half Forward and McLean who is the only played left from their 1999 TSFL Grand final side is picked to play as the Forward for the Bombers.

The Magpies are going to need to find a way with their backline to stop him, but also shut down the two small forwards in Cotton and Crawford. The Bombers also have Viney in there that can goal, and midfielder Shane Wager, the Magpies have more avenues to their goal which if their delivery is on target should see them able to out do the Bombers on the weekend.

PREDICTION

Glenorchy 20 points
