Clarence vs North Hobart 4pm
SUMMARY
Some are calling this an early preview of the 2010 TSL Grand Final with both teams looking like a team that cannot be beaten, both sides have managed to rack up easy wins in their first three games, and now they are going to tackle it out under lights of Bellerive Oval. Clarence the last time they played under lights was against the Magpies and they ran away with the game and showed that they are going to be a force this season. North Hobart have had a great start themselves, crushing Hobart, Lauderdale and proving too strong under the Devonport Oval lights against the Devonport side last weekend.
The battle of both tough forward lines are going to be what makes this an interesting game, Brett Geappen has shown himself to be a great replacement for Brad Dutton, a bit inaccurate at times he's still booted 19 goals already from 3 games, if he can remove the behinds from his game he could easily be closer to 30 goals early. For the Demons recruiting Zeke Gardam has really paid off from them, 12 goals from his first 3 games in red and blue playing mostly as a Centre Half Forward has been good for the young Demon.
The Demons also have themselves a backman that can drift forward and kick a few goals Jesse Wells has proven that, but the Roos also have Brennan Savage who has been sneaking forward as well as having Drury and Thurley already able to kick goals. North's midfield has been boosted as well with Nathan Street, Veitch, Hall, Di Ventuto and Clinton Brown around the middle, They are going to be battling it out with French, Thurley and Green, Green has proven to be a top star for the Roos filling a void that has been left in their midfield by Setchells retirement.
This game is not set for the TV but if you are looking for a great clash to watch on a Saturday Night this is going to be the game to see, two sides unbeaten, both sides are looking very much like a contender for the flag, it's the early clash of the titans.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Brett Geappen (Clarence) – A surprising start to the season by Geappen booting 19 goals has him a bit of a favoritism to win the Hudson Medal, a call that was scoffed at when former forward Brad Dutton made it back in Round 1 on ABC Radio, some are starting to pay more attention to the roos playing coach. He manages to get himself free and mark easily on his chest, he caused Hobart all sorts of problems, he had a brief period of inaccuracy but he managed to bounce back and help sink the Tigers.
Zeke Gardam (North Hobart) – The talented former Docker has been on fire for the Demons managing to boot himself 12 goals early here in the season, and focusing on the battle of the forwards is going to be a great one, both are in great form and both are getting their best tests yet in this game.
QUESTION MARKS
This is going to be the Roos' first real test of the season, they haven't really been tested for a full game, the Magpies did it for awhile and then fell away, are the Roos going to feel the effects of a few easy games? Or can the Roos continue their long running winning streak at Bellerive Oval by beating the Demons again, and adding more money to their flag favoritism?
The Demons are playing a team that has not lost at Bellerive Oval in a long time, not since the TSL Started last season in fact, the Demons lost to the Roos in the Elimination final and now find themselves needing to break the Roos' streak, but can they do it? Are the Demons ready to step up and show up the Roos at their home ground?
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
Clarence should start favorites for this game, they have not lost at this venue and they are going to be again hard to beat, Brett Geappen is going to be the man that the Demons are going to need to stop, the Roos also have Matthew Drury, and Cameron Thurley that can show up to kick goals and also have Matthew Geappen who is looking to try and get into the same form he had for the Demons when he played there last season, he has been carrying a bit of an injury this season, and hasn't been at his best yet.
The Roos also have Brennan Savage who plays as a backman, but has fancied himself as a bit of a forward this season sneaking down for a shot at goal and a couple of goals here and there. Having not lost at Bellerive Oval in so many games has made the venue a scary place for a side to travel over and play on, and with the TSL Grand Final played there a few sides are going to need to find a way to win there, but I do not see the Demons stopping Geappen, Drury, and Thurley as well as having a few other guys that are going to make the Demons day a nightmare.
The only hope the Demons are going to have is to hopefully catch the Roos napping and get out to a big lead and hope to keep it with Gardam and Devine hopefully managing to put some goals on the board. Devine has been much maligned in the past couple of seasons having not been able to really step up, the aging veteran Demon has managed to snag a couple of goals here and there and probably in the same boat as Glenorchy's Michael Darcy right now.
