FORM: North Hobart had to do it the hard way against Lauderdale last week, being forced to pull out a seven-goal-to-one last quarter to secure the 23-point win. Launceston did it all too easily last week, racking up 30 goals on way to a 160-point flogging of Devonport at Windsor Park.
BURNING QUESTION: Can North Hobart take down one of the TSL big guns and show it can move into the competition’s upper echelon? Is Launceston the real deal or just a flat track bully after belting up the young Devonport outfit at home the previous week?
THE KEY: Launceston full-forward Brian Finch is a difficult match-up at the best of times. Quick on the lead and strong if not overly tall, Finch led all last year on his way to the Hudson Medallist as the league’s leading goal-kicker. If he can get good, fast supply from Scott Stephens, Sam O’Keefe, Tim Bristow and Co, he could kick a winning score.
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY? Both sides have deep midfields who can dominate on their day, but this game might be decided by the talls. The return of Nathan O’
onoghue from an eight-week ban for reckless contact with an umpire last season could be crucial. If he can combine effectively with Joe Groenewegen and Jason Edwards, control the stoppages and provide targets around the ground, it may just give the Blues the edge in what should be a tight, entertaining contest.
