SUMMERY
The Magpies' first home game of the season, and with that they open the new Cresswell-Beakley Stand replacing the past one that burnt down a few years back. The Magpies are coming into this game after a rather poor showing in the second half against the Roos, poor disposal, and the inability to be direct was the main cause of the Magpies headaches and then there were a few injuries which left them bench less a day Magpies fans will look to forget. Hobart on the other hand had the Good Friday match agianst Cross City Rival North Hobart, a game which saw the Tigers beaten pretty easily in the end and the Demons have continued their run but we come to KGV Oval and this was not a happy hunting ground for the Tigers last season, they lost a couple of players with injury and the Magpies thumped them as well.
Hobart managed to restrict the Magpies in their second clash at the TCA Ground last season, though, they almost managed to blow the win after leading by 30 points heading into the last, the Magpies came home with a wet sail but they still lost the game, and rightfully so. That wa the last loss the Magpies would have for the season until the Grand Final loss to Clarence.
The break came and Glenorchy went on a 9 game season streak, and added the final to that as well, but their premiership hopes were dashed and their reply match saw the Roos just smash them.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Jaye Bowden (Glenorchy) – He did not get a lot of the ball against the Roos, but he managed four goals, managed goal of the day, and mark of the day and when he got the ball during the game he knew how to use it, which has been the trademark of Bowden at the Magpies, last season he cane close to bailing them out against the Blues in the season opener, he managed to bring down Webberley at KGV Oval late in that clash to help the Magpies on their way to victory, he will be one to keep an eye on.
Sam Reeves (Hobart) – 3 goals against North Hobart last week, and he has been given the nod to play on Glenorchy's forward David Hunt, who started to look a little dangerous late against the Roos, finished with 2 goals, could have been more if there was a bit of delivery, the reason he has been selected is just for that reason to make sure he keeps the Magpies forard goalless.
QUESTION MARKS
Glenorchy's forward line structure came under fire by some on Monday after they failed to fire, the Magpies have since moved Darcy to Centre Half Forward, left David hunt as the forward, can this be the start of something for them? Can Gleorchy this week feed their forward line? Last week it was a problem the Roos managed to force the Magpies away.
Hobart also had a bad Round 1, they had a bad round 1 against this side last season, and Glenorchy are at home, with their new standing opening, and wounded, is this the time for the Tiger cubs to pounce? Or are they going to fall victim again to the dangerous Magpies who are sure to lift at home?
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
Glenorchy have made some changes, they have gotten Jesse Crouch back from injury, and they would have hopefully Shayne Moles lining up in defense, the injuries managed to become a toll on the Magpies legs late in the game last weekend, and maybe the Grand Final replay got to some of the players, and they just managed to fail under the pressure. Darcy appeared to be shocked by the intensity of the rivalry that Glenorchy and Clarence share and that was shown on the field. This week though Glenorchy have pushed him to CHF, after he managed a goal last week it may have gotten him ready.
At a biased view I am tipping Glenorchy to win the game, Glenorchy have been strong against Hobart, and I think theres enough fire power there for the Magpies to bounce back this weekend, the addition of captain Jesse Crouch will surely boost the Magpies chances, and if they can get the ball into the forward line and not kick so many behinds, as it's been shown throughout the league and the AFL behinds are costing teams a lot, Glenorchy need to make the best of their chances.
