FORM: After a narrow four-point loss to Launceston, Devonport bounced back in ruthless style with a 53-point win over Coastal rival Burnie at Devonport Oval. North Launceston has struggled against the big boys all season, having won only once against the top three – Clarence, Launceston and Devonport – from five attempts, and that was over the Northern Magpies way back in round two.
BURNING QUESTION: Can Devonport sew up third spot and a home final? Can North Launceston show it is going to be more than just road kill come the finals with a morale-boosting victory over a top-three team?
THE KEY: Tall, athletic midfielder Vin Ponsonby is a chance to return from injury, having only played one game since hurting his ankle against Clarence in round 14. If he can gain form and match fitness, Ponsonby could be the X factor the Northern Magpies need.
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY: Devonport at home is always hard to beat, but you can times that by two with the home side playing for third spot. Ben Reynolds is so important for the Northern Magpies with his strength, mobility and goal-kicking ability, and if Rhys Mott, Trent McCrossen, Sam Whish-Wilson and Kurt Heazlewood can get on top in the midfield, he will take the Pies to victory.
TIP: Devonport by 28 points.
