FORM: Devonport suffered heartbreak last Saturday with a four-point loss to Launceston in Launceston. It was the Northern Magpies second loss to the top two sides in three weeks following the round 14 defeat by Clarence, suggesting they are just short of the premiership race – at the moment. After surging back into finals contention, Burnie has lost its past three games to Launceston, Glenorchy and Lauderdale (at West Park) last week.
BURNING QUESTION: Can Devonport defeat North-West arch-rival Burnie for the first team this season after two previous losses? Can Burnie lift yet again for the Coastal derby and record a clean-sweep against the Magpies this season?
THE KEY: It has been a quiet three weeks for the reigning Tassie Medallist, Devonport captain Kurt Heazlewood. The former St Kilda listed player has not been in the best for three rounds – most unusual for the midfielder/running half-back. If he can turn it on, he and his side could be too good for the young Dockers.
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY: Burnie has won both clashes this season, but surely Devonport can turn it around this time. The Northern Magpies could lose third spot with another loss to the Dockers. But with key forward Ben Reynolds in good form and the return of fellow strong forward Scott Bennetts, Devonport should finally be too powerful for gallant Burnie.
TIP: Devonport by 26 points.
