SUMMARY

The last time they met, Glenorchy were fighting to keep their finals hopes alive after three straight loses, Hobart were looking to stitch up 6th spot for the moment, a victory for them would have seen them two games clear of Glenorchy. The Magpies' season was rapidly going down the drain as The Tigers got the jump on the Magpies, leading by 25 points at quarter time after holding Glenorchy goalless.

Glenorchy slowly worked their way back into the game, and managed to lead by as much as 33 points in the last term, before Hobart kicked four of the last five goals but Glenorchy would eventually win by 13 points, the final margin was only 13 points in Glenorchy’s favour, but the score line flattered the Tigers.

Glenorchy forward Michael Darcy booted five goals while captain Jesse Crouch and midfielder Brayden Webb were outstanding for Glenorchy, Hobart would only sit in 6th spot by percentage, but now the Magpies have taken over 6th spot and sit clear of the Tigers, and the Dockers. Since then, Hobart has now lost seven games in a row last week Lauderdale chalked up its third straight win Hobart started the better against the Bombers, booting the first three goals of the game, but from then on the young Bombers controlled the game, Lauderdale had 10 different goal kickers, and have now overtaken the Tigers on the ladder, and sending the Tigers down to ninth on the ladder.

Glenorchy were at home to Burnie in the first week of the split round, Glenorchy were looking to put some breathing space between them and to assure themselves of a finals spot this season, Glenorchy coach Ben Reid was forced to swing Jade Hodge from defence, where he was soundly beaten by Mihocek to half-forward to provide an avenue for goal.

At the last change, the Dockers had the momentum and a handy 10-point lead, on the back of rebounding defenders Darren Banham and Kade Munday and two exciting young key forwards Brodie Mihocek and Tyson Weller. It was looking more and more likely that the Magpies who did start the better on the day was going to head for a loss, but a 10-minute burst of high quality football saw the Magpies slam on six goals to one in the final term to record a 21-point win.

Fellow key forward Michael Darcy kicked two of his three goals in the last quarter surge, while captain Jesse Crouch grabbed best afield honours and four majors in an outstanding contribution. Glenorchy has had the wood over the Tigers since the Tasmanian State League started, but the Tigers managed to snatch victory from almost defeat after they had lead by close to 30 points heading into the last quarter, but the Magpies came home with a wet sail losing by a goal.

That loss would see Glenorchy not lose another game until Grand Final day last season, their last meeting last season saw Patrick Bass sadly injure his knee and would miss the rest of the season, and has missed this season as well. Hobart really need to win this game, and continue to win, and hope that the Magpies lose their remaining games, which sees them play North Hobart, and Lauderdale heading into the 2010 finals.

It seems now if the Pies do win this weekend, they will not be missing the finals in 2010, they will be 3 games clear of Hobart, 2 games clear of both Burnie and Lauderdale should either win this weekend.

Glenorchy still have a chance of getting a home final, after North Hobart lost to North Launceston, the Demons play Clarence this week, and unless the Roos lose this week, it would give Glenorchy a chance to get up to 5th, depending on how other teams go as well.

North Launceston play South Launceston tonight and if the Dogs upset the Bombers, Glenorchy can jump as far as 4th on the TSL ladder by the end of the weekend with a win, so the game is still very important to Glenorchy, and with the Dockers still on the attack, the finals are not yet assured for the Maggies.

Round 16 sees Glenorchy's Jonathon Bowring play his 100th game for the Magpies, congratulations go out to the dual Best and Fairest winner.

PLAYER TO WATCH

George Bunbury (Hobart) – One of the standouts for the Tigers last weekend booting 3 goals for the Tigers, they are going to need all the goalkickers they can get this weekend against the Magpies.

Jesse Crouch (Glenorchy) – The Glenorchy captain has had to fight back from a couple of injury setbacks this season, his knee injury has hindered him this season, and against the Dockers he was one fire helping the Magpies get over the line.

QUESTION MARKS

Hobart are on a 7 game losing streak, and their season looks like it's done, can the Tigers snap the losing streak, and have their own impact on the 2010 finals? Is there still a last gasp effort from the Tigers to make the finals?

Glenorchy have had the week off from their 21 point win over the Dockers, last time they played the Tigers they had some trouble, and were almost beaten can the Magpies stand tall and finally wrap up their finals spot?

WHO WILL WIN AND WHY

Glenorchy would be the favourites in the clash, despite the home ground advantage the Tigers would have Glenorchy have shown up the Tigers in the past at the TCA Ground and they are starting to look like a team that are trying to build towards a decent finals shot this season. The week off the Magpies had would also work in their favour, giving themselves a chance to freshen up. They are going to hope to get some more out of their young players heading into the finals, they are also hoping to get Muir back for the finals after he went under the knife recently but Shayne Moles' season is over. Lyndon Carlton might be a chance of sneaking back into the Magpies line up.

Glenorchy also welcome back into their line up David O'Garey who has been out with injury, the Tigers welcome back Young, and Horton into the side, neither have any outs for this game, but the Magpies are going to be too strong for the Tigers. The Tigers will be competitive for a bit of the game, but the experience, and the quality of Glenorchy should see the Magpies home.

PREDICTION
Glenorchy by 30 points
