SUMMARY
A must win game for both Devonport and Hobart, the last time they met it was the Clinton Viney show, he showed up in the third quarter and put the game beyond the Tigers, who had been very competitive up until the third quarter. Hobart have had a history of third quarter fade outs it was seen when they were playing the premiers Clarence at the TCA Ground, and they went into the half with 1 point lead, and then a 12 goal quarter saw the Tigers blown out of the water.
The last month has seen the Tigers who were in the 6 fall out and replaced by their arch rivals Glenorchy, Devonport have had themselves some trouble as well, last season they started to fall away in the second half of the season and came close to missing the finals, even now they are holding onto a place.
The winner of this game is going to keep their finals chances alive, Devonport are looking at possibly finishing top 3 or there abouts, the Tiger just want to reach the finals for the first time in awhile, and this season the Tigers had hoped was going to be their season, but if they can win they can get themselves back in there should Glenorchy lose.
But they are going to have to get past the Magpies here, who have some tough forward options, they have Clinton viney in his first season, he came to the Magpies from NWFA club Wesley Vale, there is also Scott Bennetts, Rhys Colbeck, and Ben Reynolds who has been able to find some form and accuracy. The Tigers have Cassidy who booted four goals against Clarence last weekend.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Ben Reynolds (Devonport) – Played for Tasmania against the Queenslanders, and was apparently offered a chance to move up there to the QAFL, he has been in good form this season, even though he has been inaccurate at times this season, he will be one of the players the Tigers are going to need to stop and he will be hoping to kick a few goals for the Magpies in this game.
Michael Cassidy (Hobart) – Booted four against the Roos last week, playing at full forward this weekend, he is going to need to kick at least four to keep the Tigers in this one.
QUESTION MARKS
The Magpies had a surprise loss to Burnie, though the Dockers beat them back in Round 1 but the Magpies would have thought they were going to be a top side this season, are they mistaken? Or are the jitters they had last season this time coming back again?
Hobart are a young side, they have been competitive for a half against teams like Devonport and Clarence at the TCA Ground, were even competitive last week against Clarence, no 12 goal quarter last week to sink them, would this have the Tigers up and about thinking they can knock off the Pies?
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
Devonport have been shaky at times this season, were even a chance to lose their last encounter against this side at the TCA Ground, but they managed to find a player to stand up and kick the goals to get them over the line, chances are the Magpies are going to be able to keep the Tigers at bay more easier at their home ground then at the TCA Ground.
.
It's not do or die time for either club yet, both clubs are still in the hunt, Devonport are in the 6 still, but a loss could make it harder either side going forward. The Tigers are still young they are coming along, and if they can keep the game under 40 points that would be a close for them as they were belted the last time they met them.
Devonport should be returning to this winners list this weekend, but I won't be surprised if the Tigers make it a contest.
