SUMMARY
Grand Final replay again at Bellerive, the home of the Grand Final this season sees the traditional rivals play off in a big Round 13 clash. Glenorchy have strung three wins on the trot and have started to look like they are on the march slowly after the break. The Roos lost Brett Geappen as he has retired, some more injuries one to Thurley, and Drury has seen the Roos become a bit wobbly even though they have still won their last two clashes they have been less than convincing in those games.
Even though the Roos are unbeaten, and have been winning most of their games easy, and have been able to probably wrap up top spot for this season, the injuries they have, have taken their toll, and Glenorchy are showing signs of life, they are looking fitter and are running games out and have gotten 3 big wins in a row. Ben Setchell plays his first game this season, he's back in Roos colours after his retirement, Glenorchy have Jake Cox celebrating a milestone, 50 games in the seniors for him.
The Pies welcome back O'Garey, Dilger, and Arnold into the side, Dilger and Arnold played in the National Under 18's Carnival win earlier in the week. For the Roos they have Thurley back, but they lose Drury to injury, bring in Charlie Riewoldt who also played for Tasmania. Clarence have not lost at this venue since 2008, Glenorchy and Launceston were the closest teams to knock off the Roos at Bellerive both coming close last season.
The painful memories of the first two games this season against the Roos would be edged in the memory for Glenorchy, last time out Jade Hodge made a successful move from the backline to the forward line and kicked some goals, while Darcy was still looking to get himself into it, the big forward has started to kick some goals, and starting to look the part.
Clarence have looked for a replacement for Brett Geappen, Standen and Savage have been two players that have caused some teams some trouble this season, Nick Paine also looks like he will be given the chance to play in the forward pocket against the Pies.
In their first game against the Roos at Bellerive, the Magpies had trouble delivering the ball into their forward line the backline was just too strong for the Pies, and the ball was repelled out and the Roos managed to at times score without much trouble. Both teams will be fired up after a street brawl a few weeks ago, these clashes always have a little heat to them as they are traditional rivals. Glenorchy need the win to keep themselves in touch with the top half of the ladder, the Roos would want to try and keep themselves from finally being beaten this season, and beaten at Bellerive.
Glenorchy could capitalise on the Roos having a few issues over the last couple of weeks, they have not blown away teams like they did early in the season, the goals are not coming as easy and it's taken them until late to take the game away. It's the young Magpies taking on the older Roos, and it is for the Bingley-Linton Cup.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Trent Standen (Clarence) – Returned to the Roos this season, Trent has been a revelation for the Roos played junior footy with the club, and has been able to kick a few goals, he was one of a few players that caused the Magpies a lot of headaches when they last met. Without Geappen up forward, and Drury gone as well, the Roos are going to need him, Savage, and Paine to work on kicking a few goals each to beat the Pies.
Michael Darcy (Glenorchy) – He was looking out of shape early in the season and was not getting the ball as much, he has started to kick some goals, and get the ball, last week he booted 6 in a Magpies win, he's now against last year's premiers and here is the test for Darcy.
QUESTION MARKS
Some are saying the Roos are starting to look a bit wobbly of course, they are still winning but not convincingly, is the loss of Brett Geappen up forward, and some other injuries taking their toll? Ben Setchell returns to the line up, is this going to be beneficial, or a hindrance to the Roos?
Glenorchy have had a good month winning 3 in a row, finally starting to get some consistent performances, but are they going to be able to keep it up in this game? If they lose, will they start to wobbly themselves? They are only just holding onto their finals spot as it is.
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
Clarence at home you are always going to have to believe they are going to be too strong, they are playing a Glenorchy side that are starting to get some wins under their belt, starting to look better and have a whole lot of potential to look forward to next season. But it's hard to see the inexperienced Magpies winning this game, as much as I would like to say I am going to tip them, Clarence have the quality on the Park, and at home, it's hard to tip against them. Glenorchy has struggled to win their in the past, the Magpies had started to gain some wins there, but now the Roos' strangle hold on this venue has started to come around again.
The Magpies should be competitive, and could almost steal the win, but as they say the cream always rises to the top and the Roos will launch their attack late in the game to take the game away from the Magpies. They have been doing it since the game against North Launceston, and it's been evident against Hobart, and Lauderdale, while Glenorchy are a bit better then Hobart and Lauderdale, they are going to suffer the same fate as them, a loss to the Roos.
The plus side for the Magpies this week is that Hobart have themselves a difficult game, so a loss could still see them in the top six post this weekend, but will hinder any chance of them climbing the ladder.
