Other McDonald seizes chance

DEVONPORT'S Chris McDonald is the first to admit he is not the key player opposition clubs turn their attention to when coming up against the Magpies.

But his recent consistent form will have Launceston giving greater attention to the half-forward in today's third qualifying final at Aurora Stadium.
Chris McDonald gets his kick away under pressure.

McDonald, the older brother of Brad, has kicked at least one goal in his last seven games to have 20 for the season, including two in last Saturday night's 50-point mauling of Glenorchy.

"That is one good thing about having good players in the side, you fly under the radar a little bit, which is good," McDonald, 24, said yesterday.

"I make sure they get all the attention.

"But this time of the year not many players do fly under the radar, you do need to step up because there are not many dud players in the finals sides."

It is McDonald's second year at the Magpies, having transferred from NTFL side Penguin to play in the state league and alongside Brad.

But Brad will be missing today with a hamstring, while it was Chris who was plagued by injury last year, sidelined for 11 games with a medial ligament strain.

"I'm starting to find my feet," the roof plumber said.

"This is the first year I've gone without an injury. I missed half of last year so it is just good to be playing reasonably consistent footy and to be injury free."

In the last meeting with the Blues, Devonport led all day only to be run over in the final quarter to go down by four points.

"We know we can match it with them," he said.

"We have just got to have the right attitude and play 120 minutes."
