SUMMARY
This is the second time these two teams have met since the new TSL has started, the first time was later in the season last season and the Demons walked away with the points. The very last time they met was back in 1997 in the original Tasmanian Football League, 1997 was the last season for the then Raiders who entered the league in 1994 coached by former New Norfolk coach Peter Chisnell had to change their name as at the time Devonport were known as the Blues.
Launceston didn't play any finals in the original TFL, once they went back to the NTFL they managed to capture a premiership and were favourites for the TSL Premiership last season, but they had a shocking drop in form and some injuries and were lucky to limp into the finals. North Hobart, they managed to get into the finals after they were beaten in a grand final the year before in the final Premier League Grand Final, they looked a bit shakey but the win over Launceston kept them on track, but their last two games last season saw a loss to Hobart, and a loss to Clarence to end their season completely.
North Hobart have had a great start to the season minus the loss to the Roos last weekend, who look like they are going to be hard to beat at home again this season, even at all as they have beaten the Dogs at Yoingtown as well. The Blues have had a mixed start to the season, last week they gave Devonport their first win of the season, now both sides are going to battle it out at North Hobart Oval, and we will see who the better team will be.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Ken Hall (North Hobart) – A veteran of the game now, Ken was one of the best for the Demons last weekend managed a couple of goals and has become a vital part of the Demons midfield as he has the experience. He has been given less of a responsibility in there now that Nathan Street has entered the midfield, the loses of a couple of players has left some questions but they have been pretty well off in there.
Scott Stephens (Launceston) – Another senior member of a midfield the captain has been a major part of the team, and with the team in a bit of a rebuilding phase, they have needed some senior heads to stand up and he has been one of them that has.
QUESTION MARKS
North Hobart suffered their first loss last week against the Roos, what will the mood be at North Hobart after the loss? Robbie Devine has been around for a few seasons now, he has been much maligned by many around the place is this the veteran forwards last season?
Launceston traveling down from Launceston to play the Demons, last week they were outdone by the Magpies, are they going to find a way to defeat the Demons? Zeke Gardam is going to be one of a few men to beat, do they have the defenders to cope with him?
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
North Hobart has the wood over the Blues, albeit in their only encounter last season, the Demons have been able to meet all challenges but the one against the Roos, and at North Hobart Oval you will have to expect the Demons are going to take this out. The forwardline with Gardam, and Devine in it looks too strong for the Launceston defenders, they are missing a Brennan Savage type defender, and they are missing an Adam Derbyshire forward and their midfield is no match for the likes of Street, Veitch and Hall. Even though Veitch is named in the pocket he will surely drift around the park at some stage of this game.
It is hard to see where the Blues are going to win this game, and traveling down is not going to help their cause that much either, the Demons should easily account for the Blues.
