DEVONPORT will host a Wrest Point Tasmanian State League qualifying final if the Magpies, currently third on the ladder, maintain their current position.
However, coach Errol Bourn still believes Devonport is an outside chance to finish second.
The Magpies have three matches remaining after this weekend's bye before the finals get underway on August 21.
However, if Devonport wins all three and finishes second, it would mean a trip south to play ladder leader Clarence at Bellerive in the first week of the finals.
The cost of losing a home final for finishing second would be offset with this year's six-team, five-week finals series.
AFL Tasmania general manager Scott Wade said yesterday the top two sides were effectively given a "triple chance" and would have to lose three games to exit the finals race.
Teams finishing third and fourth would effectively hold the more familiar "double chance" and could afford to drop one game.
The teams finishing fifth and sixth will play-off in a sudden death elimination final in the first week.
Wade said teams finishing first, third and fifth would be guaranteed a home region final in the first week and, depending on the make-up of the remaining teams, one or more clubs could host consecutive home finals in the first two weeks.
"We're really keen to see a final on the North-West Coast and depending on the finals make-up, there could even be two," Wade said.
Devonport's remaining games leading into the finals include a game against Launceston at Aurora Stadium on July 30, a night game against Burnie in Devonport on August 6 and another home game against North Launceston on August 14.
