Magpies have Devine dream
June 7th 2010 11:15
Recently retired Robbie Devine has caught the eye of Devonport's coach Errol Bourn as a possible coach for the club. Devine has only just walked away from the game 4 games short of being a record holder, 30 odd goals away from being their greatest goakicker up there with a champion by the name of Byron Howard who has joined arch rivals Glenorchy as an assistant this season. But Robbie Devine has been scouted as a possible new coach, North Hobart are expecting Devine to come aboard as soon as he comes back from a holiday on the North West Coast of Tasmania.
Devonport have been sending out the feelers for Devine, while he is on the coast, Devine has family on the North West Coast and that is what the Magpies are hoping will be the thing that sees him head to the Magpies, and not to return to the Demons. Devine has not yet spoken about his future post football, he has talked to coach Clinton Brown before his announcement that he could return as a coach, but now seems to have his name on a list.
The Magpies are expected to speak with the former Demon soon, and hope to entice the big man to their club. Many experts, including myself expect the veteran forward to head back to North Hobart and bypass the Devonport Football Club, but a future in coaching could be what sees the former Demon find himself anywhere.
It could come down to what sort of role North Hobart does in fact offer Robert Devine post football, they had Byron Howard as a bench coach there for awhile, with Dessie James there as well, with Howard now at Glenorchy they could use another bench coach with Brown being on the field. Brown has recently returned from injury and they do need to get something out of a forwardline that has been struggling.
