DEVONPORT midfielder Rhys Mott could be gracing the television screens around the nation within the next 12 months as he pushes for a chance to play AFL.
Mott's form with the Tassie Mariners has been nothing short of exceptional and on the weekend he cemented himself as one of the best youngsters in the country with a best- on-ground performance in the division two final of the NAB AFL Under 18 Championships.
In Tasmania's 42-point win over the NSW/ACT, captain Josh Green was forced from the ground in the first 10 minutes with injury and Mott took up the challenge to lead the team to victory.
His 27 possessions earnt coach Mathew Armstrong's praises.
"I thought I played pretty well, I just concentrated on getting the boys up," Mott said yesterday.
Mott said that his dream was to play AFL one day, but whether or not he will nominate for this year's draft is still up in the air.
"I have just got to see what happens with the draft ... if it happens it happens," Mott said.
This year Mott has been an integral part of the Devonport structure and played a number of good games.
"My form hasn't been too bad, I've had a couple of good games, but just have to find more consistency," Mott said.
Devonport has lost two games in a row, but Mott insists that the team's good form is just around the corner.
"We lost a couple of games like this last year, but we have just got to stick as a group and our good form is just round the corner," Mott said.
Tomorrow's clash against Hobart could make or break Devonport's season.
The game at the Devonport Oval will start at the revised time of 2pm.
