SUMMARY
For the second time in their history the Bombers play the Dogs, this time both sides are under new coaches legends of Tasmanian Football, Lauderdale have Darren Winter, a Clarence legend and tough-man that had many forwards ducking for cover. South Launceston have Dale Chugg a legend of the Northern Bombers, he was apart of that successful 1990s era of the Northern Bombers and he will be bringing his knowledge to the young Dogs, who have last captured a flag back in their NTFL days in 1999. That same year the Northern Bombers with Dale Chugg lost the Tasmanian State Football League Grand Final to Glenorchy, Darren Winters Clarence also lost in t he finals to the Bombers, but now a new era of both clubs, the Lauderdale Football Club played in their first ever State League game last season against this same side and beat them at Youngtown.
The Dogs themselves have managed to capture themselves some big wins last season, their first win was against North Hobart at North Hobart Oval, after not being able to win they traveled down and walked away with a close win. The Bulldogs also managed to upset the Magpies at Devonport Oval, again in a close game, and their other win last season was a close one, but they still finished last. Lauderdale didn't do much better last season, but the former Cats came into the SFL Premier League when the Sorrell Football Club went into recces and since then they have not looked back, and even this season they are getting an upgrade to their oval.
What does this season hold for both sides? Lauderdale and South Launceston have young kids and really no breakout stars, the Bombers have managed to recruit but they have also lost as well, which has probably hindered their progress, South Launceston were a young side coming into the league last season, and even now they are, losing a few players over Summer and gaining more young players may have seen them again become spooners. South Launceston were in the last Statewide League and were not the most successful club in the league, Lauderdale played in some finals of the Premier League, but still have time to forge a history here in the TSL.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Paul Hudson (Lauderdale) – Suffered a knee injury last season, right when he was playing some good football, the Bombers will be glad to have him back and he will be a very important part of their season this season.
Richard Heazlewood (South Launceston) – One of the talented young Bulldogs players that managed to make a bit of an impact last season, going to be a player that the Dogs needs to help them out, along with talented ruckman Mitch Hills and co-captain Aaron Viney.
QUESTION MARKS
The first game of the season, and the Bombers are under new coach Darren Winter, Winter is not new to the coaching game, can he get the best out of the Bombers this weekend? Will the fact that this game has been moved from Lauderdale Oval to North Hobart Oval because of the renovations of Lauderdale Oval affected the Bombers in anyway? Or are they just going to go at it as normal?
Like the Bombers, the Bulldogs are under a new coach, they are still a very young side, will history repeat for the Dogs and the Bombers will coast home with another win? Dale Chugg first game in charge of this young side, against a side that managed to get the better of them last season, can history be changed under a new coach?
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
Lauderdale are a side that are a bit better then the Bulldogs, both sides however do not have many big name, stand out players like a Clarence, North Hobart, Glenorchy and the likes but they have a lot of triers and this could be a very good clash, both under new coaches and just going to be a game where you are going to be watching a bunch of triers that are going to give it their all to win. Predicting this one is a bit of a tough one, but with the recruits of Edwards and Siggins, and having Paul Hudson, no he's no relation to Peter Hudson, that I know of back in the side it might give the Bombers more, Jamie Diienno was a very good player for the Bombers last season as well, and Jed Williamson is going to be a player that assists this side greatly, so I am tipping the Bombers to take the points again.
