GLENORCHY is about to shock the local football fraternity by fielding two senior teams next season -- one in the State League and a second in the Southern Football League.
The Pies want to field five teams all up from 2011.
They will have TSL seniors and colts, and have applied to enter senior, reserve and colts teams in the SFL as well.
Glenorchy's proposal was considered at an SFL meeting on Wednesday, and the club was asked to outline how it would resource and run two TSL teams and three SFL teams.
"We wanted to be sure they had the numbers to field three teams and the means to operate them," SFL general manager Angus Adams said yesterday.
Glenorchy president Steve Allie said that would not be an issue.
"We have sufficient support staff, sufficient finances, sufficient numbers, and we are pretty excited about the prospect," Allie said.
"We haven't been accepted yet, I might add."
Glenorchy moved to enter its reserves team into the SFL as a senior outfit after reserves football was dropped from the TSL from this year.
"We think it's a negative move to remove the reserves from a club," Allie said.
"So rather than be negative, we are going to be aggressive and positive about it.
"We'll be back to the SFL with all the relevant information by the end of next week."
With Glenorchy blazing a trail, it is expected Hobart's other four TSL teams may consider the move.
"There are others interested in following the same pathway," Allie said.
"I can't speak for all four, but I do know there are several others."
TSL teams wanting to follow the Glenorchy model must meet the same expectations.
"If any of the others want to come in, they must comply," Adams said.
Glenorchy's inclusion would eliminate the bye that exists in the 11-team SFL competition. Should all five TSL be added to the SFL, the competition would likely be split into two tiers.
Glenorchy also announced yesterday tenders have been called for to install national-standard lights at KGV
