BURNIE'S disappointing season continued at the hands of Launceston in Saturday's State League round nine match, with the young Dockers handed their second near-90-point defeat in three weeks.
The Dockers were never in the hunt at Windsor Park against a bigger and stronger Launceston outfit, with the Blues running out 82-point victors.
Launceston dominated the midfield and controlled the play going into its forward line, where Brian Finch and Nathan O'Donoghue didn't let the Blues down with four goals each.
Disappointed Burnie coach Brent Plant said the Dockers had exactly the same game plan - to control the middle.
"It's just that they executed it better than we did," Plant said.
"It was big bodies against little bodies - they just had too much strength for us.
"Every time we brought the ball forward we were under extreme pressure and their tackling was relentless.
"We know where we are at as a team, and where we need to get to, and this result was another reality check for us after beating North Launceston last week," Plant said.
"We need to do more work off the field for the results to flow on the field."
Launceston skipper Scott Stephens led the way for the Blues and dominated the centre clearances, setting up many forward moves.
Burnie's Matthew Stephenson was a standout, along with Luke Shackleton who had almost 40 possessions.
Darren Banham was handy around the packs of the Dockers and, despite his direct opponent Brian Finch kicking four goals, Plant said defender Brentyn Milverton also performed admirably.
"When you consider Launceston had 80 inside 50s to our 60 or so, Milvo did a great job to restrict him to just four," he said.
Burnie is at home this Saturday against North Hobart.
