SUMMARY

Summer has not been too kind to Burnie, a lot of experience has walked out on the club and found their homes elsewhere, a new coach has come in, and the Dockers look towards the future. The Magpies have had a quieter summer, they haven't had many big loses, and have recruited well, both sides managed to fall away later in the season they were once 1 and 2 on the ladder and was looking like they were the teams to beat, Devonport went on a 6 game losing streak which saw them lose 2nd to Glenorchy, Burnie later lost 1st to Glenorchy as well, but the Dockers managed to finish off in second, but their first final was one to forget, Glenorchy came out and belted them, the Magpies after recovering their season got a huge win over Launceston, the reigning NTFL premiers sending them crashing out. Both sides however would see their season ended by Clarence.

The Dockers have already been written off, so can they bounce back? They had a few close practice matches against local NTFL clubs, but they have had the wood on the Magpies last season, winning 2 of the 3 clashes, the Magpies stole their last clash. The Dockers are going to need to come out and prove some of their doubters wrong as they look at life after the mass exodus they had over summer. The Magpies coach Errol Bourne will hope to have the Magpies forget about the loss to Clarence in the finals at Bellerive Oval last season. After protests about the game being playerd there at Bellerive and not somewhere else, the Magpies were soundly beaten.

The coastal rivalry should make this game a very big game to watch on the coast tonight, a close finish might be on the cards.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Kurt Heazlewood (Devonport) –
Last seasons Tassie Medal winner was one of the Magpies best last season, he will look to continue that good form this season, the former Devil, and former Boldock Medal winner is going to be a key component to the Magpies 2010 campaign.

Luke Shackleton (Burnie) – On field assistant coach for the Dockers this season, the former Collingwood draftee and Devil was one of the consistent performers for the Dockers last season, and he is an experienced head some of these young Dockers are going to need this season under a new coach.

QUESTION MARKS

Devonport came out of nowhere last season and where a chance at being a contender, has this gone, or are the Magpies still a contender? The Magpies have managed to recruit well, and have some more quality, contenders or pretenders after the coastal clash?

A new look Burnie with a lot of experience gone, a new coach, a team in turmoil over the Summer break, some say they have an upbeat attitude at West Park, or is it a bit of smoke and mirrors? Are the Dockers really finished or are the Preliminary Finalists going to challenge for the flag?

WHO WILL WIN AND WHY

Devonport are going to go into this game as slight favourites due to the current turmoil that has been around the Burnie Dockers, but they are not going to have it all their way, being their home ground it gives them that advantage and being under lights as well helps them as well. The Dockers are still going to give the Magpies a run for their money in this one, but they aer going to fall short, if Burnie had added a few more senior players to their list I would have given them a bigger shot at winning the gamwe and walking away with the four points, but they are still there, they might still have enough, but from my point of view the Dockers are not going to get the chocolates in the Good Friday clash.

PREDICTION
Devonport 10 points
