STATE League club Lauderdale kicked a political football into the state election campaign.
With club president Phil Giffard calling on all parties to show their hand in terms of funding the redevelopment of the community oval.
The heavy machinery rolled in last week to flatten the existing oval and begin to shape the new MCG-sized Lauderdale football ground.
Trucks removed 1200 tonnes of soil from the ground and it was replaced by 1500 tonnes of special-grade loam that will boost drainage and help sustain the 3000 square metres of new turf, which will be laid next week.
"As far as the surface goes it will be up there as one of the biggest and best grounds that AFL is played on nationally," Giffard said.
"It's going to be bigger than the SCG, bigger than Bellerive Oval."
It is the first stage in a comprehensive facelift for the State League facility, which also services the wider community.
Bellerive is no longer the only ground in the South with lights, or the ability to host AFL games.
