On the election trail, David Bartlett has pledged more money to do up yet another Southern Tasmanian Football venue this time it is Lauderdale's oval, the ground has been in need of some repair and to allow the venue to enter into the new phase of the TSL, the venue also has lacked any seating and Lauderdale has been robbed of home games when they have been picked for TV, here is the story taken from The Mercury.

STATE League club Lauderdale kicked a political football into the state election campaign.

With club president Phil Giffard calling on all parties to show their hand in terms of funding the redevelopment of the community oval.

The heavy machinery rolled in last week to flatten the existing oval and begin to shape the new MCG-sized Lauderdale football ground.

Trucks removed 1200 tonnes of soil from the ground and it was replaced by 1500 tonnes of special-grade loam that will boost drainage and help sustain the 3000 square metres of new turf, which will be laid next week.

"As far as the surface goes it will be up there as one of the biggest and best grounds that AFL is played on nationally," Giffard said.

"It's going to be bigger than the SCG, bigger than Bellerive Oval."

It is the first stage in a comprehensive facelift for the State League facility, which also services the wider community.

Having been to Lauderdale Oval a couple of times, once in the rain, and again when there was no rain about I have found the ground under foot to be very hard, and this was shown when the players of the then SFL were dropping with cramp on the ground. This facelift they are calling could assist in another chance of a Tasmanian AFL push, venues KGV Oval, North Hobart Oval, are getting upgrades, there is a sports centre down Kingston getting another upgrade as well.

Bellerive is no longer the only ground in the South with lights, or the ability to host AFL games.
