Baby Bomber blast of power

THOR Boscott hit the State League this year with an almighty thud befitting the god of thunder he is named after.

The 15-year-old, who has only been playing footy for three seasons, has been a force to be reckoned with, turning heads on and off the field.

With the support of teammates at Lauderdale and coach Darren Winter, he kicked his first goal in seniors last week against Devonport at Bellerive.

A few punches of the air later Boscott realised just what an achievement it was.

"We were a bit down in that quarter, so it was good for me and the boys to get that goal," he said.

While leaving his under-16 team to play in seniors has kept the teen wide-eyed on the ground, he said it was definitely a better experience than the years he spent playing soccer.

"I have kind of gone against the trend, but soccer was getting really boring, it was slow," he said.

"Footy is much faster and more physical.

"I just have to work on my confidence, back myself a bit more and not be afraid of getting into the game a bit more."

However, the 172cm, 76kg MacKillop College student said he was looking forward to a growth spurt.

Boscott said he had upped his weights regime to two days a week on top of his football training in a bid to bulk up.

AFL aspirations mean it is a regime the Sandford youngster may need to get used to.

"I love footy, and I want to play AFL for sure," he said.

"All that comes in time though doesn't it.

"I just need to work on my strength, keeping up with the older boys and tackling the bigger bodies."

But for this weekend's State League match against the in-form Hobart at the TCA, Boscott hopes to match up his skills against those of another up-and-coming teen, Tigers tyro Jayde Young, 18.

"Me and Jayde are good friends, we get into each other and it would be a good match," Boscott said.

"Hobart are big boys, so it's going to be a tough match for us."
