Adam Derbyshire, has gone into semi-retirement as Launceston's spearhead, choosing to focus on running a cafe/bar in his home town. Launceston's spearhead Adam Derbysire has decided to go into semi-retirement choosing to concentrate on a cafe/bar. Derbyshire 27, bought half a share in the Metz Cafe/Bar which requires him to work 70 hours a week, putting a fair strain on his TSL career. Derbyshire only managed nine games for the Blues this season as injury injured the full forwards 2009 and put a dent in their premiership hopes.
Derbyshires retirement follows another big retirement from this season, Clarence's Brad Dutton has also decided to hang up the boots, Dutton has suffered many knee injuries throughout his career with a total of 14 operations to correct the problem which has now ended his career. Dutton capped off a big season with the Roos by winning the Peter Hudson Medal for the league's leading goalkicker and also played in a premiership side.
In his four season's with Clarence Dutton amassed 260 goals and played in four grand finals ending with an amazing three flags, one of whiich was a state league flag in 2009. Dutton still wishes to be involved with the Roos, he's not yet sure of what his next role will be.
Adam Derbyshire still wishes to play again, telling The Mercury "I've been playing senior football for the last 10 years, so a year off wouldn't hurt. It would do my body a lot of good," he said.
"I want to play again, but it might not be this year."
Their departure will leave a big hole on the TSL's goalkicking leaderboard, given Dutton and Derbyshire kicked 119 goals between them last year. Justin Plapp from Burnie also retired during the off season, heading to Werribee as a part time coach, the former Dockers coach joins another former Tasmanian Simon Atkins at the club.
The loss of Derbyshire will also leave a pretty big hole in the Blues forward line as well, with the 2010 TSL Season kicking off in the first week of Aprll, the Blues have themselves a bit of time to find a replacement for Derbyshire.
The TSL may see a new break out forward to cover their loses, Glenorchy introducing Michael Darcy into their forward line for the season, and North Hobart's veteran forward Robert Devine in what could be his last season could claim the Peter Hudson Medal himself.
