About The TSL
January 29th 2010 05:06
The TSL is the statewide league of Tasmanian football, it was reformed in 2009 after the last league came to a close after the 2000 season where the 2000 SWL (Statewide League) Grand final was moved from Hobart, to then York Park, now known as Aurora Stadium, the day was a wet one at Aurora Stadium, and over 6,000 people turned out to see the Roos of Clarence play the Northern Bombers.
The Roos took home the flag winning 15.15 (105) to North Launceston 8.8 (56) the league was later disbanded once Burnie pulled out over the summer, this left Glenorchy, Clarence and North Hobart without a 2001 home as all the other former SWL clubs that season found their way to the NTFL, the teams later went into the SFL (Southern Football League) and then the league was split in 2 divisions, the Premier, and Regional Leagues, the TFL clubs played in the Premier League, and the other clubs from the SFL remained regional.
Glenorchy would claim the last ever premier league premiership beating their arch rivals North Hobart, the Magpies came close to claiming the 2009 TSL flag, from Clarence after a poor early showing in the game, but the Roos ran out premiers in what became a classic grand final after the Roos were looking home for most of the game.
This blog will have previews and reviews of the games in the 2010 TSL Season.
